In December 2024, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Advocacy team, in collaboration with Fútbol Más, strengthened their efforts to improve the quality of diabetes education by piloting a class plan for the Kids and Diabetes in Schools (KiDS) programme in sessions held in two schools one located in Madrid and the other in Seville.

The pilot phase had a dual purpose. First, it aimed to test the effectiveness of the new class plan. Second, it sought to develop appropriate tools and methods for assessing students’ knowledge. These assessments were conducted before and immediately after two sessions in each school. A long-term evaluation, planned during the first quarter of 2025, will assess how well participants remember what they learned.

This innovative approach targets students aged 6 to 17, employing game-based activities to create an engaging and dynamic learning experience about diabetes. Specialists in psychology and diabetes have meticulously crafted activities for each age group, ensuring that specific learning objectives are met.

IDF and Fútbol Más will incorporate insights and best practices from this pilot into future KiDS resources. These enhanced materials, slated for launch in April at the IDF World Diabetes Congress 2025, will further advance diabetes education in schools.
