KiDS programme Thailand

The Kids & Diabetes in Schools (KiDS) programme has extended its activities across Thailand. The implementation is a collaboration between Sanofi Thailand, the Diabetes Association of Thailand and the Ministry of Public Health.

On 17 June, a KiDS educational session was held at Wat Tapong Nok School in Rayong Province. More than 80 Sanofi volunteers, healthcare professionals and community partners led primary and junior secondary pupils through four interactive stations:

  • Carb it Bingo – teaching carbohydrate counting via the nubcarb.com platform
  • Nutrition label detectives – guiding students through food packaging information
  • Bike & Blend – encouraging exercise paired with smoothie-making
  • Power up with milk – promoting bone growth and health

With schools across Thailand now participating, KiDS aims to embed the three pillars of wellbeing — nutrition, physical activity and sleep — into students’ daily lives. Early feedback confirms that teachers and pupils find the programme engaging, practical and easy to implement. As childhood obesity rates rise, education is key to help delay or prevent type 2 diabetes.

The KiDS programme aligns with Thailand’s strategy to combat non-communicable diseases by targeting childhood obesity and inactivity. According to the IDF Diabetes Atlas 11th edition (2025), approximately 6.4 million adults, or 10% of adults aged 20–79 in Thailand, live with diabetes, with over 1 in 3 unaware of their condition. Additionally, 4,623 children and young people under 19 live with type 1 diabetes.

This expansion in Thailand builds on the launch of the implementation last year. In April this year, during the World Diabetes Congress in Bangkok, the programme unveiled a revamped website and enhanced multilingual resources. These upgrades aim to support the local and national delivery of fun, accessible diabetes education in schools.
